Harpenden SC Meet Report – Hitchin Open Meet

Hitchin is always popular, I think because it’s just a one day-er! Anyway, this was a very busy meet with a lot of our swimmers in action…!

Hitchin is a great meet, partly because it’s one day, partly because it lets you in with no times, and partly because the staff are really friendly. We had quite a lot of wiggling and negotiating to do on this one and we got everything we wanted, so thanks to Hitchin for that!

We had so many swimmers at this meet, which is brilliant to see. We topped 30 in every single session, and were in the 40s for the middle session! It’s so important for swimmers to take the chance to race when they can, especially when just starting out, so to have so many involved was brilliant.

The biggest PB of the day by a mile was from Amelie M, who took 31s off her 200m freestyle time! Other big winners were Hannah G with 14s off her 100m IM, and Ramsey G with 13s off his 100m breaststroke. In terms of percentages, Robert F stole the show with a 16% improvement over 50m backstroke, followed by Amelie’s 200m freestyle at 14% and Adam M’s 13% over 50m butterfly.

Congratulations too to all of our first timers who took on their first meets in style: well done to Lauren D, John D, Emily F, Louie F and Bethany H!

We had two records go at this one, Isabelle F broke the 9 year olds 100m freestyle record, and Parker B broke the 10 year olds 100m backstroke record. Well done!

It’s so exciting to have so many swimmers out competing, and setting times so that they can race more often at different events. With Counties looming it;s lovely to see progress across the board as we come to the final push!
