Harpenden SC Meet Report – Harpenden Legacy Meet

The first meet of each season for most of our swimmers is our own Legacy Meet. A large majority of the club enter, and we make sure that swimmers are covering off swims pertinent to their squad criteria, times that need updating, and looking ahead to Counties.

At a very busy meet we camped ourselves in the corner and watched the action unfold. It was great to see so many swimmers doing new races for the first time, and to see times tumbling across the board. The 400m IM is always daunting, but a number of the Dolphins took on the challenge and came away with good times to tick off another box on their criteria. Many of the Seals were also taking tentative steps into racing, and the 89 new times shows how well people did across the board when taking on those new challenges. There are far too many achievements to call them all out here, but we were very pleased with everyone who had a go at something new!

There were a further 335 PBs at the event. Normally I highlight new PBs but that would be ridiculous in this instance as this document would become huge! What I will say is that, big or small, every PB is a step in the right direction for the swimmers and we are pleased with every single one that was set over the weekend.

There were two club records set this year; Toby M broke the 11 year old boys 400m IM record and Aggie B, in hot pursuit of a spot prize, broke the 17 year old 100m IM record.

Thank you to all the coaches who came down to help so we could split the swimmers into groups and make it all more manageable. Thank you to all the officials who turned out to make sure the meet could run legally, truly appreciated. Another thank you to all of the volunteers who helped it all keep ticking over. Finally, particular thanks to Bryan and his open meet team for organising it all in the first place!
