Harpenden SC Meet Report – Fly Fest

Fly Fest is always an interesting start to the season. We have a mix of swimmers; those who are having a go because they need to do the event for criteria purposes, those who are racing it so they can race for money in skins at Club Champs, those who are butterfly swimmers, and those who just…entered it! It’s a great place to have a go, it’s one evening and everyone does 200m fly. It’s run mixed gender by time, so you end up with some very competitive racing across the board.

The biggest winners were of course our three swimmers who completed this race for the first time, so congratulations to Maddie H, Alex D and Jacob V. It can be a daunting task, but all agreed that it’s not as bad as you make it out to be in your head!

There was a 14 second PB for Emma C, a 12 second PB for Elena S and a 6 second PB for James A. Toby M took off 4 seconds, Lewis D 3 seconds and Florence C edged off half a second.

Whilst not yet into the ‘season proper’, this early hit out produced 3 qualifying times and 3 consideration times for Swim England Hertfordshire Counties 2020 – congratulations to Florence C, Frankie I, Toby M, Larissa D, Freddie A and Lewis D. Toby M also set a new 11 year old record, taking down a time set back in 2009!

We were really pleased with the application of the swimmers and how they raced. It was great to see times tumbling and new swimmers getting involved, and we were very pleased with the outcomes, including those who have taken back to training things to work on.

We also had some lovely feedback on our new hats…!
